Call for papers: Jean Monnet workshop ‘Approaching EU-Russia relations differently’

22 February 2014

Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz (Germany)

This workshop is part of the Jean Monnet Multilateral Research Group ‘EU-Russia Relations: Developing a Transnational Perspective’ and is organised with the support of the LLP Programme of the European Union. The partner universities are: University of Kent (Tom Casier), Carleton University (Joan DeBardeleben), St. Petersburg State University (Tatiana Romanova) and Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Arne Niemann).

The aim of this academic workshop is to bring scholars together to reflect on current approaches to study EU-Russia relations. Arguably a considerable part of the research is characterised by a certain EU-centric or Russia-centric bias. The workshop seeks to explore transnational perspectives on EU-Russia relations and to be a forum for developing innovative approaches in the field.

We invite papers on various themes and aspects of EU-Russia relations. Papers should make a contribution to one of the following aspects:

  • Developing transnational perspectives on EU-Russia relations
  • Critical analysis of current research and dominant approaches in the field
  • Innovative methods and approaches to study EU-Russia relations
  • Theoretical perspectives on EU-Russia relations

Some leading scholars will participate in the workshop and share their views on the current state of affairs of EU-Russia studies.

The number of places on the workshop is limited. To apply, please submit an abstract of 200 words and your contact details by email, to Tom Casier: t.casier@kent.ac.uk

Deadline for submitting the abstract: 31 January 2014

You will be informed about the selection of papers by 15 February 2014.

Funding: Participation in the workshop is free. A limited number of grants will be available for PhD students to cover travel and accommodation costs.
