THE TEXTBOOK

THE TEXTBOOK "RUSSIA AND THE EUROPEAN UNION"

Russia and the European Union: the textbook. Ed. by S. Yun. Tomsk State University Publishing House. Tomsk, 2014. - 330 p.

ISBN 978-5-7511-2299-7

At the end of 2014, the textbook “Russia and the European Union” was published in Tomsk. It comprehensively considers the historical, regulatory and strategic aspects of relations between Russia and the European Union, the interaction of the parties in the fields of economics, politics and security. The manual was prepared by a large group of Russian and foreign researchers and it is recommended with the UMO for using in in academic programmes in the fields of “International Relations” and “Foreign Regional Studies”.

The material of the textbook is based on the realities of relations between Russia and the European Union, which preceded the aggravation of the political crisis in Ukraine, the annexation of the Crimea to Russia and the outbreak of armed conflict in the south-east of Ukraine. The current crisis in relations between Moscow and Brussels, accompanied by mutual sanctions, is a completely new situation, but, on the other hand, it follows logically from the state in which Russia-EU relations remained at the turn of 2013 and 2014. The state of relations between Russia and the European Union in various fields; the degree of consistency between the declared goals and the achieved results of interaction; factors and problems that impede the development of relations — these are the issues that authors focus on and their answers help to understand how the parties, who set goals of rapprochement and integration, came to a situation of limiting relations and mutual deterrence.
