The Fifth Annual Security Conference took place at the Institute of Europe (Russian Academy of Sciences) in Moscow on December 10, 2018. The forum was organized with the support of Jean Monnet EU Erasmus+ program and the Finnish Crisis Management Initiative (CMI) founded by Nobel Peace laureate Martti Ahtisaari. The event brought together over 90 participants (officials, diplomats, scholars and experts) from Moscow, many Russian regions and 12 other countries: Armenia, Austria, Belarus, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Spain, Switzerland and Ukraine. Foreign guests represented a number of recognized think tanks and analytical centers, like the Centre for International Studies in Rome, the Finnish Institute of International Affairs, the European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS), the European Experience Company in Potsdam, Centre for Eastern Studies in Warsaw.

In the course of three thematic sessions the participants discussed modern approaches to the European security system, the EU crisis management policy as well as current relations between Russia and the European Union.
